Education

Mr. McGraw received his Bachelor of Arts in English and Post Baccalaureate degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (1984). He received his Juris Doctor degree from the Wake Forest University School of Law (1989) where he was awarded the highest honor for Trial Practice. His mediator training was received at the Duke University Private Adjudication Center.

Role at MHC

Mr. McGraw is a shareholder at MHC and works primarily in the areas of workers’ compensation, civil litigation and dispute resolution.

Professional Bio

Mr. McGraw is a certified mediator. He is certified to mediate cases before the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts, United States District Court, N.C. Superior Court and the North Carolina Industrial Commission.

Mr. McGraw has been awarded an “A-V Preeminent” rating, the highest legal rating established by Martindale-Hubbell. He received the honor of North Carolina Super Lawyer for eleven consecutive years based upon peer review and professional achievement and for 2011 he was selected as one of the top 100 lawyers in North Carolina. Mr. McGraw also received NC Defense Attorney of the Year Award for workers’ compensation for 2018 from Best Lawyers.

Mr. McGraw is a member of the Gaston County, North Carolina and American Bar Associations and the North Carolina State Bar. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the United States District Court for the N.C. Western and Middle District. Additionally, he has also served on the North Carolina Workers’ Compensation Section Council, Gaston County Bar Grievance Committee, as the Judicial District Representative for the Gaston County Moot Court Competition, on the Advisory Board for the Voluntary Lawyers Program, as a director of the Gastonia Civitan Club, and on the Public Relations Committee for the United Way of Gaston County.

Mr. McGraw has also authored and presented continuing legal education programs on various topics in the area of N.C. Workers’ Compensation law.

Personal Bio

In addition to his professional activities, Mr. McGraw serves on the Wake Forest School of Law Board of Visitors, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Gaston Christian School, and as President of the Board for the Gaston Gators Swim Organization.

Mr. McGraw and his family, which includes his wife and their four children are members of the First United Methodist Church in Belmont. In his free time, Mr. McGraw enjoys producing and acting in Christian movies, hiking and rock & roll music.
