Education

Mrs. Sumner graduated from Davidson College (A.B. cum laude 1979). She attended the Universite De Montpellier, France and Wake Forest University Law School from which she graduated in 1982 with a J.D. degree. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Role at MHC

Mrs. Sumner is Of Counsel with the firm and has practiced in the areas of estate planning, probate and estate administration, and corporate and limited liability company organization since 1982.

Mrs. Sumner is a member of the Gaston County and the North Carolina Bar Associations and the North Carolina State Bar.

Personal Bio

In addition to her professional activities, Mrs. Sumner is currently a member of the Gaston County Advisory Board of Branch Banking and Trust Company and the Board of Trustees of the Gaston College Foundation. She is a past member of the Boards of Directors of the Carrie and Lena Glenn Foundation, Community Foundation of Gaston County, Gaston County Hospice, Gaston County Arts Council, Gaston Day School, Pioneer Council of the Girl Scouts, Gaston County YMCA, Gaston County Heart Society, the Gastonia Debutante Club and the Junior League of Gaston County. She previously served on the Diaconate and Session of the First Presbyterian Church of Gastonia and as Gaston County Chapter President for Davidson College Alumni Association and Co-Chairman of the successful $1.5 Million Silver Anniversary Capital Campaign for Gaston Day School. She and her husband, H. Randolph Sumner, reside in Gastonia with their two children, Hank and Katie.
