Education

Mr. Guthrie graduated from Wofford College with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1966, and then attended Mercer University School of Law graduating in 1969 with a Juris Doctorate Degree.

Role at MHC

Mr. Guthrie has extensive experience in every aspect of complex civil litigation and has paid particular emphasis in his career to the alcohol beverage industry including defending major dram shop litigation matters.

Professional Bio

After law school, Mr. Guthrie served in the United States Army including a tour in Vietnam where he was awarded two bronze stars for his service as a Captain in the United States Army. He served from 1969 to 1971 after which he returned to Charlotte where he served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office from 1971 to 1974, at which time he entered the private practice of law. He is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of North Carolina, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Personal Bio

Mr. Guthrie was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1944. He has been deeply involved with both the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts having served as not only a leader but also on the Board of Directors for each. He has also been involved extensively within the community having served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Providence United Methodist Church, President of the Wesley Men’s Bible Class, in addition to serving on the Board of Directors of Alexander Children’s Home and the Charlotte Culinary Institute. Mr. Guthrie is also very active in alumni affairs at Wofford College including currently serving on the Wofford College Executive Committee of the Alumni Council.
