Mullen Holland & Cooper Welcomes 5 New Attorneys

Five Charlotte-based attorneys are joining the Law Firm of Mullen Holland & Cooper P.A. The new attorneys –Jennifer Youngs, Dennis Guthrie, Neal Davis, John Hasty, and Justin Davis – will expand the litigation practice at Mullen Holland & Cooper, allowing the firm to better address the legal needs of clients in Gaston County and the surrounding region.

Langdon Cooper, the managing partner and a founding member of Mullen Holland & Cooper P.A. said, “We are excited about the opportunity to grow our practice and expand our client base.  Jennifer, Dennis, Neal, John, and Justin are established, skilled attorneys who will enhance our capabilities for new and existing clients, and grow our already established presence as a regional law firm.”

The new attorneys are an excellent fit, according to Cooper.  “These lawyers understand, appreciate, and will join in our history and commitment to clients and the community,” says Cooper.  The firm was founded in 1950 by J. Mack Holland and James Mullen, who began the firm in a space rented from a cotton broker.  The partners shared a vision for a firm that excelled in business law and litigation with attorneys who were not only top legal professionals, but also leaders in the community.  With the addition in 1969 of Cooper, a nationally and state board certified bankruptcy specialist, Mullen Holland and Cooper built a broader base of clients and services, growing the firm’s geographic footprint to encompass both North and South Carolina.

Each of the attorneys joining the firm brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and expertise.  Jennifer Youngs was an Assistant United States Attorney for ten years and prosecuted civil and criminal financial cases for the Department of Justice; she is nationally known for her expertise in financial litigation and regularly teaches classes for the Department of Justice for Assistant United States attorneys from across the country.  Dennis Guthrie earned two bronze stars in Vietnam before returning home to the Charlotte area where he built a successful complex civil litigation, alcoholic beverage control law and serious personal injury practice.  Neal Davis is an experienced litigator with an emphasis on premises and product liability defense and commercial litigation; he is also a certified mediator, and maintains an extensive mediation practice.  John Hasty specializes in media law, 1st Amendment issues, Real Estate Condemnation matters, commercial and construction litigation, and land use and zoning law; he has practiced law for over fifty years, and has handled three cases before the United States Supreme Court.  Justin Davis clerked for Chief Judge Sidney S. Eagles of the North Carolina Court of Appeals and was a prosecutor in Mecklenburg County before entering private practice, where he has focused on premises liability defense, general civil and business litigation and dram shop liability defense.  Dennis, Neal, John and Justin were members of the Charlotte firm Guthrie, Davis, Henderson & Staton, PLLC.

Mullen Holland & Cooper P.A. has served Gaston County since 1950.  Today, the firm now serves clients throughout North and South Carolina, and is among those few awarded “A-V Preeminent,” which is the highest rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the leading ratings publication of attorneys.  From bankruptcy and creditors’ rights to workers’ compensation, civil litigation to elder law, land use and zoning to commercial litigation, employment law to trusts and estates, Mullen Holland & Cooper P.A. has the capacity to provide legal services to almost any business or individual.  The firm and its attorneys have received multiple awards over the years, including being named to Super Lawyers® and the Top 100 Attorneys in North Carolina® by Charlotte Magazine and North Carolina Law & Politics, to Legal Elite® by the North Carolina Business Journal and as the Best Lawyers in America® by U.S. News & World Report.  The firm itself has been listed for multiple years as one the Best Law Firms in America® by U.
